ABOUT
Dr. Lohit Datta-Barua is an engineer by profession. He has a B.S. in Electronics, M.S. in E.E. and Ph.D. in Engineering with focus in Ocean Engineering. He is a past recipient of prestigious Douglas H. Annin award from the Instrument Society of America (ISA). He is also a past Key-note speaker at an annual conference of the Texas Gas Association (TGA). He is considered an authority in Gas Measurement.
Dr. Datta-Barua held highly responsible positions in major companies in the operating sector as well as in the service sector, such as United Energy Resources (UER), Enron, El Paso Energy, Amec, and WorleyParsons. He is an innovative and result-driven leader and collaborative Manager and Consultant in the Energy Industry emphasizing safety, quality, environment, risk management, and team effort with personal values and beliefs in respect, integrity, communication and excellence. He has comprehensive onshore and offshore, domestic and international experience in managing conceptual to detail design/engineering, mega projects, and complex EPcM contracts utilizing diverse groups of technical and non-technical personnel. He is fully conversant with the development of Capex and Opex estimate, developing a road map for successful engineering, construction and operation, Procurement and Logistics, Terms and Conditions (Ts&Cs) for various types of contracts (E, EP, EPC, EPcM, O&M) including Oil and Gas contracts (purchase, sales, transportation). He retired from his professional career in July of 2016 after over 40 years of service to the oil & gas industry, but he continues to provide his consulting service to the industry.
In spite of a busy professional career Dr. Datta-Barua never lost his love for writing and community service. He started writing at an early age in his mother tongue Assamese growing up in India. After coming to America he started writing in English. His first two books in English were technical in nature dealing with oil & gas related subjects. Thereafter he tried his hands on non-technical writing and published several books including a travelogue. Many of his articles have been published in various newspapers in the US and in India, both in English and Assamese. He also volunteered for many charitable organizations. His heart aches for the children suffering from hunger and poverty. His writings dwell on such issues as well as social injustices. Dr. Datta-Barua continues to volunteer his time in an elementary school in his neighborhood. He firmly believes that education is the key to the door for a better future. He has traveled to many countries, gave talks on various topics here in the US and abroad.
Dr. Lohit Datta-Barua was born in Assam, India. He has been living in Houston area since 1973. He is married to Manjula Datta-Barua, currently a retired engineer herself. They have two daughters and four grandchildren living in Chicago.
